Rossi dominating Detroit GP weekend with pole for first race

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi continues his impressive lead from yesterday’s practices to take the pole for the first of the “Dual in Detroit” races here at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. Rossi appears to still have the hunger leftover from Indy in his last competitive laps with Team Penske’s Indy 500 Champion Simon Pagenaud and maintained it, sweeping both practices as well as qualifying this morning. With Honda being the more favored and revered winning manufacturer of past here in Detroit, he could very well take the win here today.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden ran fastest in the first qualifying group, but still remains second to Rossi’s time in the second group.

The starting grid for the first of the two races is as follows:

  1. #27 Alexander Rossi (Honda)
  2. #2 Josef Newgarden (Chevrolet)
  3. #9 Scott Dixon (Honda)
  4. #10 Felix Rosenqvist (R) (Honda)
  5. #88 Colton Herta (R) (Chevrolet)
  6. #28 Ryan Hunter-Reay (Honda)
  7. #31 Patricio O’Ward (R) (Chevrolet)
  8. #26 Zach Veach (Honda)
  9. #30 Takuma Sato (Honda)
  10. #5 James Hinchcliffe (Honda)
  11. #15 Graham Rahal (Honda)
  12. #12 Will Power (Chevrolet)
